Miss Christie became involved in a dispute with another beauty queen, Miss Manchester, aka Sara Beverley Jones, at a Manchester night-spot earlier this week.

Miss Jones, 24, was allegedly punched in the face after arguing about Tornado, a star of Sky1’s Gladiator series whose real name is David McIntosh.

It is believed that Miss Jones, a club promoter and would-be actress, is an ex-girlfriend of Mr McIntosh and Miss Christie is his current partner.

Miss Christie, a niece of sprinter Linford Christie, was the first black woman to be crowned Miss England. She is also a heptathlete who hopes to compete at the 2012 Olympics.

Mr McIntosh, 22, from Altrincham, Cheshire, is a 15 stone former Royal Marine Commando who cites Rambo as his inspiration and says he would be a gorilla or polar bear if he was an animal.

A statement from Miss England organisers said: ”Due to the media attention following the allegations against her, Rachel Christie has now decided to withdraw from the Miss World competition and relinquish her Miss England crown.

”Rachel will concentrate on clearing her name and focus on training for the 2012 Olympics until this case is resolved.

”Rachel is very upset about the matter and the Miss England organiser Angie Beasley and Miss World Chairman Julia Morley will support Rachel and are behind Rachel with her Olympic training.”

A further statement from Miss England organisers about how they plan to proceed is expected within the next day.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have previously confirmed they were called to the Mansion nightclub off Deansgate shortly before 1am on Monday.

A GMP spokesman said: ”It is believed that, earlier that night, a 24-year-old woman got into an altercation with another woman in the club and was hit in the face several times.

”The victim was taken to Hope Hospital where she received treatment for superficial facial injuries. She has now been discharged.”

Miss Christie was arrested on suspicion of assault and has been bailed until January 2010.

Police are appealing for witnesses. Anyone with information is asked to call Greater Manchester Police on 0161 872 5050 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.

Despite her ordeal, Rihanna, 21, said she still loved Brown and wished him well.

In the second excerpt from her NBC Good Morning America interview with Diane Sawyer, Rihanna explained how events unfolded as the couple drove home from a Grammy Awards party in Los Angeles in February.

She found a message from another woman on his phone and confronted him about it.

“I caught him in a lie and he wouldn’t tell the truth. I wouldn’t drop it,” she recalled. “I couldn’t take that he kept lying to me and he couldn’t take that I wouldn’t drop it because obviously his back was up against the wall, the truth was right here in the text message.

“So it escalated into him being violent towards me and it was ugly.”

Brown smashed her head against the window, bit her and punched her in the face, leaving her with a mouthful of blood.

She said: “That’s all I kept thinking, the whole time: when is it going to stop, when is it going to stop? He had no soul in his eyes. Just blank. He was clearly blanked out. There was no person when I looked at him.”

When the attack was over and Brown stopped the car, she was faced with what to do next. “I was battered, I was bleeding, I was swollen in my face. There was no way of me getting home except my next option, which was to get out of the car and start walking, in a gown and with a bloody face.”

Rihanna said the couple had enjoyed a very intense relationship. “He was definitely my first love. We were best friends, we fell in love with each other. To fall in love with your best friend can be scary. We just fell really fast. The more in love we became, the more dangerous we became for each other, equally as dangerous, because it was a bit of an obsession, almost.”

The singer returned to Brown after the assault but she left him eventually because she did not want young fans to see her as a role model and stay with their violent partners. Despite everything, Rihanna said she does not hate Brown.

“The love doesn’t go away right away, you know. He didn’t accept that very well. Obviously he didn’t want us to be apart but I knew I had to make a decision for me,” she said.

“No, I don’t hate him at all. I actually love and care about him and I’m concerned about him doing well. I want him to do well, have a great career, have a great life and grow up and just take this as something that he had to go through to grow up and learn.”

She is now taking part in an investigation for ITV1’s Tonight programme into premature births.

Marsh, 33, who was named Celebrity Mum of the Year earlier this week, said the ordeal was still ”very, very painful”, when she appeared on This Morning to discuss the issue.

Asked if she would be frightened to try again, she said: ”Absolutely, yeah, and a lot of the ladies I spoke to felt the same way.”

The actress, who already has two children, said: ”You do go home and your body is still doing all the things it would normally do (after giving birth) but you have no baby.

”So it’s very, very hard to try and channel all those feelings somewhere else. It’s very difficult… there kind of wasn’t an awful lot of support afterwards, so you just leave with leaflets.”

She continued: ”I obviously haven’t really divulged too much about what happened to me and I don’t intend to do that because that’s something that is still very, very painful for me to talk about.

Marsh, who plays Michelle Connor, returned to the soap just two weeks after losing her child.

”I want to know what might happen in the future. If I was to try again, I would want to know that I was being looked after and maybe some steps were being taken to make sure they were monitoring me more closely,” she said.

The Tonight programme featuring Marsh is to be screened on Monday at 8pm.

The EastEnders actor, Ricky Groves, was saved by the judges, with Alesha Dixon, Bruno Tonioli and Craig Revel Horwood all backing him to stay.

As he was voted off, Kelly, who was born in Lancashire, said: “I feel amazing really. It’s great that I made it to Blackpool.”

Ali Bastian, the former EastEnders actress, achieved a perfect score of 40 for her Viennese waltz, and was followed on the leader board by star of the same soap Ricky Whittle, who was given 35 for his tango.

Saturday’s show took place in Blackpool’s Tower Ballroom, the traditional home to the long-running BBC series Come Dancing, which was axed before the recent resurgence of interest.

The building’s sprung parquet floor, which is twice the size of the normal dance floor in London, caused some surprises.

After the athlete Jade Johnson performed a jive, Bruce Forsyth commented that the floor felt “like a trampoline”, while Len Goodman, the head judge, said the movement had sent vibrations onto his bottom.

Previous winner Jill Halfpenny returned to perform a swing dance on the floor where she was victorious in 2004.

Penny Lancaster, the model, also a previous contestant, performed another routine as her husband Rod Stewart sang “It’s the Same Old Song”.

As well as the competition, the BBC staged mass dance events in Blackpool’s Winter Gardens to encourage more people to try out their moves.

The programme also featured a visit by the dancers to soldiers at Catterick garrison as Remembrance Sunday nears.

The servicemen and women there are in training to go to Afghanistan.

A statement from Miss England organisers said Miss Christie, 21, had stepped down as she wanted to concentrate on clearing her name.

It was later announced that L/Cpl Hodge, who was first runner-up in the 2009 national contest, has become the new Miss England.

L/Cpl Hodge has been given leave from her duties as a soldier in the British Army and will represent England in the Miss World Final in Johannesburg, South Africa, on Saturday December 12.

She was previously given an award by her unit in the Royal Anglian Regiment for her actions during a posting in Basra and has earned the nickname ”Combat Barbie”.

She has also previously worked with lingerie chain La Senza on its Face of the Armed Forces campaign.

Lisa Bond, marketing director of La Senza said: ”Not only is she absolutely gorgeous but she is also an intelligent, inspiring young woman who does such an amazing job for her country.”
